New Website......

Hello,

Today see's the launch of a new website and Corporate ID for the company.

Please have a look through the website and identify and translation errors (of which I am sure there are some)

The look of the website is deliberately totally different to any other major manufacturers website that you may of visited, as I said, maybe a little like marmite initially but this is totally deliberate as almost everyone else's websites are exactly the same aside from the colours/brand names. This is not to say how others have done it is bad, just that we wanted to be a little different.

All feedback, good and bad/constructive criticism welcomed.

Wow! That certainly stands out

I like it, although I'm not sure what the box effect is aiming for; is it supposed to be a box, or a book, or just different?
It's certainly very bold.

The only slight negative is the "non-discoverable" way the links / buttons don't work here;

People will expect to click on the headings / pictures to navigate and the little ">" buttons are a wee bit too-different-just-to-be-different for my liking.

I like the prose, though. My wife's a copywriter and her beef is always about making content friendly and approachable, and it looks like your copywriters have done that!
I love the "How much does one metre of welded seam cost exactly?" hook

Personally couldn't find the products easily I expected them to be in the menu rather then a little cube logo in the corner. atleast on the mobile version

To clunky why when I ask for TIG AC/DC does it then give another chose I asked for TIG not mig mig-mag mma.
A Simple site the flash is a designer not a user thing (can charge more & head office see it as corporate)
An over view of the company yes same as overview of the products then a simple list of products broken down into type is what I look for.
Your product is one of the top makes why make it a hide & seek.

Hi. I like the look of the website. Couple of questions; would you expect people to go to the website already knowing what your company was about, or would it be to learn from scratch? If the former then it works, if the latter (like me) then it was tough to get "why" you are saving me money - although I start to understand by the 4th page or so.

Also (since you asked for constr crit!) I would fettle the last para on the 2nd page. It is not too clear what the message is initially.

I found it very good. Not filled with too much waffle.
It's a strong website.
Websites filled with words and info and stats about all there products don't work for me because I've read all I want to see and chances are I ain't gonna pick up the phone because I've nothing else to ask. Ones like this give me a taste and if I was considering a lorch after viewing this I would have to pick up the blower to gain more info on a machine that interests me. which gives matt a chance to speak with me in person which then gives him a opportunity to sell his product. I think it's rather clever. And I'll bet most people that open it up scroll all the way down to the bottom and open the links that interest them(which I found no issue with) . Nice job matt I'm on the "love it" side of this marmite.

im just the opposite, I want the info from the web site, I don't want a salesman pushing a product onto me I want to be able to consider the info and compare it with other machines, if you simply get the info from a sales man you will without doubt forget some of it

I'm a bit old school. I am not one for literature and I'm not pushed into something I don't want I just like interaction with real people I often pick up the phone before a big purchase to clarify things and speak with the person that knows the product. For me the web page works. Because it's encouraging. I can see why it's not for everyone. But I like it.

All a webpage should do is get an enquiry, you cant sell a machine like a Lorch with pictures and text you need to put the torch in the guys hand and you cant do that without an enquiry. I do think tell them too much and you have stolen your own thunder. Without mentioning names you can give a heap of waffle on your webpage and people will believe it and buy if there is a simple click and a low price I don't see lorch in the same market as r-tech etc though, Pre- internet in a previous business used to advertise with a free phone number or a brochure request, the brochure request generally got a rep calling brochure in hand after all only the interested request their own junk mail, a phone call got an appointment for the rep

Its still running on a test server at the moment and is not 100% completed with things like the Country representatives to be added. (Unless I am out of a job and they forgot to mention it last week)

Not sure I'd agree with that extreme - how many websites have you visited (once only!) that is so sparse of information that you thought "nah", and went to a competitor?
A website needs to give as much information as possible so that the ready can make an informed choice. Ideally, that's (in this case) machine specs, manuals, information about after-sales service etc.

I agree with you that at this end of the spectrum you will want to go to a dealer, or the manufacturer, and try the machine for real before you buy it but you only do that once you have gleaned all the info that you are looking for. And, in this connected world, that's a combination of manufacturer websites and forums like this.

Actually I recon I am a lot more likely to enquire to a small simple webpage! One that is too big or has to0 much info links and (especially stuff that floats across the darn screen or is too arty) and it is actually quite hard to navigate for Ludites like me. Besides in general I tend to think anyone with enough cash can build a nice webpage but nobody can fake real service.
Of course someone who works in or likes IT stuff will feel different, it should be born in mind that most of us over 40 get more annoyed at the computer than actually enjoy figuring it out and its the 40 up group that are supposed to be the better off finatially

I take your point, but I get the feeling you're against poorly designed and cluttered websites, which I am, too!

If the website is clear and easy to use, and has all the info you need (but not necessarily spray-painted all over the page) then you get the best of both worlds.

I'm 49 next week, by the way, so I definitely fall into your "annoyed at the computer" category, not least because I know so many companies could just make a better job of it

It has to be relevant to the item being sold, and as a welder is in effect a large technical piece of equipment I'd expect as a minimum tech specs, manuals etc to be easily accessible, if not I'd be inclined to look elsewhere.

Don't forget for many the website is now the paper brochure of yesteryear, its the shop window to attract people in, as well as being the focal point for contact and info for the customer.

In that respect the page is great as it doesn't give you those pigging PDF links. Welder spec should usyally be treated with a pinch of salt if not a block or two as a comparison. Some actually believe everything published . Go get in the motor test it IMO a serious amount of mis -rep out there. Try burning 4mm rods for instance on sets claiming equal or greater output than the Lorch Micor
