New welder problems

Hi.
Iv recently bought a new Snapon 180 promig welder to replace my Clarke 130 welder which i have been using for a few years.
I set it up yesterday and had tried welding some 0.9 steel plate.
Problem i seem to be having is when i try to tack weld its not welding nicely, its like its pulsing.
When i tack then let off the trigger and pull the trigger again to weld it will weld fine, its just that first tack or when i first start pull the trigger to weld it seems to pulse.
Is it something im doing wrong? i never had the issue with the Clarke welder.

Do you snip the blob off the end of the wire before you weld? Might be worth a try. I don’t really know what I’m talking about but i wonder if your old machine had a higher OCV than the new one. I would try snipping the wire with the snips at an angle to the wire so it leaves a sharp point on the end and try again.

not being funny ,,, but have you downloaded and READ the manual ,,, some welders can have hidden menus for stitch weld , burn back soft start ,all sorts of things , could be very very small screw pots inside the case ,,, is the polarity set up for what your doing ,, as we used to say in the AV world RTFM ,,,
read is the first and manual is last , you can work the rest out ,,, Cebora used to make snap on welders and they were rebadged , you may get the same welder on their site and get the manual that way if you dont have one.
just a starting point , but sometimes it helps.

I never snip the end of the wire off, I will give it a go though and see if it improves

drop Cebora customer support a mail , they a re a big company and will no doubt have a downloads page for customer support ,,, Im guessing its soft start one of the Cemonts I used to use had it , great for heavy structural stuff but a pain for stitching thin handrails . it was a really small screw inside the wire holder compartment ,, about 3mm max ,, just a small slotted potentiometer shaft ,,, a real knob wouldd have been hands ,,, easily missed if you were not looking for it ,,, burnback was the same .
