Newbie in Ayrshire

Hi this looks like an awsome site with plenty of great tips and help... Last time I did welding was 30 years ago

Just bought an old Beetle that needs welding, painting and pretty much panels, interior, seats..... lol

First job is setting up the welder to do patches on the chassis head... 0.8mm wire?

Welcome to the site to both of you, my work is on heavier stuff but I thought 0.6 mm for car work was best, especially in the low amps range... but I could be totally wrong...plenty of members on here with car experience will soon answer you.

I would agree with 0.6 wire for car panels, and practise, practise, practise!

It does depend on what system you are using...... Some of the pulse on pulse, or synergic systems will give you lower heat input and be able to weld very thin materials with even 1mm wire!

Not sure what power source you are using, but if I can be of any help, let me know!
