newbie paint help and set up

Hi all I’m a newbie. So here goes I have looked at about 10 pages of info today and I’m at the primer stage on my car ( all repairs done and in primer )Done by a panel beater MY MATE but it’s been standing in my lock up for 6 months. So I have my paint and primer and clear 2k.
I have an air fed mask a triple filter and a 160lt air tank outside for breathing. And a 175lt of air for paint gun/s. I also have a 12” exhaust filtered and two 10” inlet fans filtered.
So I need to know what sandpaper I should go with wet or dry sanding to get me from primer to base and to clear and then to polishing. (I also have the right polishing stuff) And also how much of each paper do I need for a full car inside and out 1 box of each or 2 and so on. Oh it’s MK1 golf GTI so not too big.
Also when I looked today I came across a thread on polishing and buffing but I can`t find it now.
Can someone point me to the link please?
My kit is.
Water traps in four corners of room ( so short lines needed)and water bomb at gun and regulators.
1.4 mini Clark gun
1.4 1lt Clark gun
1.4 devilbiss gun
1.8 devilbiss gun
Also have something called rocket (for winter I think)
Also something to stop fish eyes silicone (anti fish eye) Sorry need to go to lock up and look up name on that one.
Full air fed mask with triple inline air filters Kestrel and an outside compressor 160 lt with a breathing line. (Red line) and lots of white paper suits. And gloves.
Also my spray room will be bagged and the floor can be wet to so have I missed anything out.
I also have 4 oil filled radiators for heat to bake if need be. Or worm up.
I have slow and fast thinners and hardener. And Gide coat for dry rubbing (not sure on this) might go rattle can.
So any help or advice good and bad I need to know please don’t hold back.

I wouldn't use the anti fish eye as from what I have heard it will contaminate all your equipment and everytime you paint something you will always need to use it.Best to avoid the silicon problems in the first place.

Thanks but my lock up fits one car in with doors open and i`ve done all my car build in there so i`ve used wd40 and al sorts of stuff in there . And a painter i talked to said my lock up will be full of silicone and to use it.but i need all you people to let me know on this one please

You should be ok.I'm painting my car in a garage that has barely room for one car.Again I do everything in it.Main thing is to clean with panel wipe first and before it dries wipe with a clean cloth.My main problem is dust, though I'm going to use a booth for the outside painting.
As you can see its a tight fit.

Thanks can you see any holes in the rest of my set up. And i still dont know about paper grades and haw much i will need . Thanks again.

wd40 does not contain silicone

anti silicone drops don't always work 100%, don't try to cure a problem that may not be there.

flat off with 800 and apply guide coat then use a block to and some 800 to flat taking off the guide coat that will show any faults, don't use aerosols you will be there all day and not get an even coat.

once you have applied the base coat don't touch it at all, let it flash off (don't leave to long) then on with the clear

do not use rocket, in this weather the paint will go off in the gun

Thank you so just flat with 800 only and do you do this wet or dry.
i had in my mind to go with 320 then 800 again not sure on wet or dry and how much of paper i would need.
And the rocket was for winter to be fair so i was not going with that

I would be slightly concerned with the possibility of micro blistering, sitting in primer for 7-8 months in the sort of dampness we have had would concern me.

I too would be concerned about that. But would a days baking sort that maybe? Although I'm not sure how well 4 oil filled radiators would create an oven.

Unfortunately baking is not the answer as it tends to go right to the metal, I've known people to bake it out and it's popped up all over !!! You never know though as he might get lucky.
This is exactly the reason for using ropy primer as last coat if its going to sit around.

On mine I've used an aerosol red primer misted on as guide coat,if i used black I could mistake hitting the black epoxy base primer as guide coat.Then I wet flatted with 600,used possibly 10 sheets for the whole car, certainly less than a pack.Then 5 coats of base followed by 2 or 3 of clear.Only done the inside so far which has a bit of dust in it.I've then flatted the clear with 1500 followed by hand compounding with farecla total.Still has a slightly hazey look so following langys advice I've bought a 3inch polisher which I've only tested on the glovebox lid but seems to bring it up a treat.
I haven't had the luxury of any extraction or heat.

Thanks guys as for the primer im nocking it all off and its a cabrio wings are new in black primer bonnet new to. Ive not done the doors or tail gate .So so not to much to rub back.I will re prime base and clear coat.It was the paper grits and haw much of each I need from start to finish I needed to know .
as for the heaters you melt when you put them on and the lock ups brick and ply lined roof to.

Flat the primer with 400 to knock it back then finish with 800 if COB or 600 if solid colour

And take rags lots.

OR is there a step by step walk throw somewhere maybe that someone can point out to me
so thinking some more 600 and get some 400 in as well.

Clear Over Base. i.e Base coat colour metalic formerly but latterly solid colour with clear laqueur on top. Everyone does flatting slightly differently so I'll not poach steves answers or it will confuse you.

Sorry mate, should of put Clear Over Base.
Flat your primer dry with 400, then guidecoat and use 800 or 600 on a block depending on what topcoat your using, blow it off and use tack rag then paint.
If your new to painting I would steer clear of a DA until you have experience, oh and by the way a 400 disc on a DA leaves a 800 finish.
