Hi all. Just thought i'd say hi. I'm Ash, and based in Cheltenham.
I've recently got myself a SIP T140w mig welder for a bike project and a few repairs.
I'm trying to get organised with the kit and have a load of questions to ask.
I bought the welder second hand on ebay and picked it up last weekend. I tested it earlier on this week without gas and it worked ok so I thought I'd be fine.
Picked up a regulator this afternoon, get all ready to have a practice with it and it had no power at all. Tried it a few times, same result and then i hear a small pop come from the torch hose and then a continuous escape of gas.
Took it apart and realised that the thick copper cored power cable which runs from the wire feed to the inside of the torch had got detatched at the crimp on the brass wire feed end. When I tried to strike an arc, the wire feed tube was all that was carrying the current, and that heated up inside the sleeve, and melted a hole in the nylon gas tube about a foot from from the box . I cut the leaky bit of tube out, and re-plumbed as well as re attaching the high powered cable at the box (and soldering the wire back under the crimp for good measure to ensure a decent connection on that end) It looked like it has got frayed over time and I must have inadvertently finished the job off.
It works fine now and I'm demonstrating to myself how far I've got to go before I try it out on real jobs
I need to get some more of this nylon gas tube to run from the torch to the back of the welder box to put all the pipes back in the sheath. I reckon about 3 metres (ish) should do it.
Has anyone had any experience converting to a Euro torch arrangement as I'd like to do this at some stage ?
