Just bought my first MIG for auto restoration. Have'nt fired it up yet. Gonna' practice on 26 ga. galv. sheet metal. Any tips/suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Welcome to the mad house 
looks like I'm the only UK member awake (and wishing I wasn't)...and I'm not much use to you except to say I wouldn't use galv to practice on...nasty noxious fumes, there's endless posts about it if you search the forums. You'd need to grind it well back before welding and even the grinding is bad for your health, try and get some plain steel unless you want to die before you've mastered welding!
There are some good tutorials on here and plenty who will be happy to give you pointers (I'd be happy to but I'm not really a welder
