Hi, been poking around this forum for a while and asked a couple of questions but thought I'd post in here to give an idea of where I'm coming from and see if anyone out there can help as I'm struggling to decide what gear would be right for my situation.
I am new to any kind of welding, have played with a mig for a few hours but thats it. I've tried tried to learn a bit about the basics but whatever type of welding works out best then I'm going to have to practice and practice so any advice is appreciated.
The problem I'm having is that I would really like to be able to do welding work on cars, old beetles hopefully when I get one, but I don't have a garage, a shed or vehicle access to my garden and after looking round my area for ages have only managed to get a council garage in the next village to keep and do little bits on my car.
The problem is that the garage has no power and I really dont know what would be the best form of welding to go with. I've got a little inverter welder for stick/tig welding that's generator friendly but I know neither of these is the best for car work, even though I really like the neatness of tig welds, and from what I can gather running a mig off a genny is dodgey at best.
Would really like to know if anybody else has been in this situation and has a solution or could tell me what type of welding I should be concentrating on.
Alternatively, if there's anybody in the Sleaford, Lincs area that knows of anything more suitable with power that's not a unit that costs £200 a month (if I had that kind of spare cash then I'd be living in a bigger house with seperate garage and have a lot more toys) then please let me know.
Thanks
