NIP grinder

I have had this old hand operated grinder for 20 odd years and decided I should pull it apart, clean it up and get it going again. Some of the shafts are a bit worn and loose, but not too bad. The wheel itself was covered in grease and blue paint splattered over it so after I got it working again I was able to clean the wheel up and dress it.

The only writing on it is "NIP" as seen in the photo. There are no other identifying marks inside or out. Does anyone know of this brand ? I have Googled it but can only find similar grinders, not "NIP".

You sneaked that one in nicely. Either that or my eyesight is becoming shockingly bad. Love that grinder. Lovely to see one that has all cast parts, with no pressed metal in sight.

Thanks for posting Mick, it reminds me of the bench grinder at the house where I did odd jobs / gardening to earn pocket money as a teenager in the early 80's. I loved using that thing, wind it up as fast as I could, let go of the handle and proceed to shower sparks everywhere sharpening anything and everything I could find, I know that is not the correct way to use one but it was fun.
I think my father took over the gardening when I went to college in London, I bet none of the tools ever had as sharp an edge but suspect they may have lasted longer as a result.

This one has a 7" X 1" wheel on it.

That's what I do with it ............ wind it up as fast as I can and let go of the handle.
That reminded me, a mate of mine back in the early 70s had an old air raid siren that was geared similar to this grinder. We'd get sloshed, go for a drive somewhere out of town and start winding the siren up at 2 am. Well we thought it was funny !
