not a good day for air stuff today

Well first my big compressor stopped working not sure what the problem is didnt have time to look at anything other than the fuse, so any pointers would be great it is a snap on jobbie.

Then my die grinder decided to slow down and chuck most of the air out of the exhaust, is that just old age? is there any thing that can be done? Lucky I had a spare to finish the job.

Then the air ratchet decide to start playing up too not turning at all all the air coming out the exhaust

Same thing with my newish finger sander too although that has done it sine I got it cheap rubbish probably.


Any tips or pointer on what to check will be greatly recieved

I would not bother checking your lottery tickets with luck like you have.

I don't know much about air tools but can remember years back when we used big air grinders and they would stop or run slow with air escaping and it was because they were freezing up in winter.

funny all the other stuff works fine, air gun fine, ratchet was fine once it got going, the other die grinder was great, I suppose the fins inside could be cloged with cold oil, maybe a spay of derv in it

Get some oil in the air tools the vanes may be stuck in the rotor

Maybe the oil has thickened due to the cold and it's gumming up the vanes?.

if its a single phase standard 14cfm it wont have a relay, could be an overload button on the motor, the switch may have failed or at worst the motor check the connections on the motor aswell

i did have ear defenders on so I couldnt actually hear if it was making funny noises it may have been, yes checked socket and fuse

ave you tried draining the water out of the compressor ?


I'm trying to think of something which could stop the compressor, and send enough crap along the air lines to kill tools too...

maybe compressor dumped it's oil into the air, but that seams pretty unlikely to me?

our compressor kept tripping the overload relay the other day. it dosent like the cold left it running for 10 mins dumping the air and it was fine then for the rest of the day. next morning was the same.

also seem to get a lot of moisture pass through the traps in this weather and it freezes in the tool it stops working for a bit till it warms up and melts

I have 2 compessors linked up the big one stopped working the smaller one had to do the job of both

poor littel compressor ..... as its the bigger comp thats stoped makes me think its even more likely the overload trip / relay has tripped . all the bigger compressors ive had have been botherd by temp more than the small ones. i think it must be a mixture of thick cold oil and denser air. when running on the genny had a cold snap and the compressors really struggeld to cut back in, the would run up fine the 1st time but when they tryed to cut back in with pressure in the tank but no chance. thought it was a genny problem at first but it checked out fine but while investigating noticed the compressors drawing quite a bit more current

i will take a look today then it did work first time too. I hope that is all it is.
