Didn't know where to post this so can the mods move it to an appropriate section if required.
My wife was on a group facebook chat with my 3 daughters, so I joined in and made the mistake of mentioning to the oldest one who had a daughter about 10 months ago, that I was going to make a small jewelry box for my new grand daughter. So my wonderful wife piped in and volunteered me and and said why don't I make one for each of the daughters as well, to which all three instantly said yes please, please, please. Damnit,
from a single box to 4 boxes. Thank you wifey for volunteering me....Not!
So about 3-4 weeks later here is the result, however I ran out of wood to make the 4th box so my grand daughter missed out, something wrong there! The wood is Silky Oak which I got from my neighbour who is an arborist, I came home one day and there were 2 small logs heaved over the back fence. So sliced and diced and then the pieces sat in the shed for two years drying. Coated with a couple of coats of polyurethane. The trays are lined with black velvet with the 1st tray for rings and earings , 2nd for chains and the 3rd for bangles. I didn't take any pictures of the inside of the trays as the black velvet absorbs the light so details aren't shown anyway. The top is Emprador Marble which I cut from a 600mm square tile and rebated into the frame edges and glued in with epoxy. The handles are solid stainless steel.
There are a bit rough but I don't think the daughters will complain. The box on the left in the image with the 3 boxes looks a bit wonky but it is only the distortion from the camera angle.
