Nozzle size for spraying

About this nozzle size,the nozzle on this gun I bought is .5 specs below.

Is this ok for slightly thicker coats of cellulose or is it only for priming coats?

Really gone in wearing blinkers when I bought it and now getting miffed knowing there's two problems ie website says its a 200ml cup when its only 100ml.the cup lid is not screw on its just flange that drops onto the cup skirt....in other words the paint will slosh around and probably leak over the sides....useless cos you wouldn't be able to lay it down on its side.

It sounds like a touch up gun from the specs you have there, for spraying large areas eg. A car you need a tip size of about 1 - 1.5

Yeah think you're right,SP...looking at the spray pattern is only 1.6" wide,jesus...could be there all day spraying a decent sized panel.

You can't lay any gravity gun on it's side as it has a hole in the top of the lid so the paint can come out without creating a vacuum, you need a stand or something to hang them on when they are full of paint. For thicker coats like primer you need a 1.8 tip.

I've been using a cheap spray gun with a 1.5 tip for epoxy primer and high build primer.

GP primer 1.8 to 2.0 tip and general speaking 1.5 tip for the rest (Primer,Basic).This is what the guy in the spraygundirect suggested to me when I purchase my anest iwata spraygun.
good point with the 125 pot you cannot do a lot.I prefer the 0.5lt one.

I have the touch up gun and full size of that and while I know very little about spraying was able to get nice finish with them

I been reasearching and I'm not too sure now? but it seems that the red and green band on the cup is a code for the gun size?

Green for 1.7 nozzle and 550ml cup
Red for 0.8 to 1mm nozzle and 125ml cup.

Can anyone confirm my suspicions please?

The seller says its 1.7 nozz and 550ml cup but I think he might be wrong?

both mine are green cups one is 600ml and other about 125ml ish not sure what tip size is but the smaller gun is smaller tip

G.P when I was looking to purchase my spray gun I come across this spraygun from Bergen.
Price is really competitive for a HVLP.
madkayaker has used them and he is really happy, so this is good new .
I didn't purchase them and went for a more expensive Gravity Spray gun from Iwata .
You cannot compare the quality and the Spare you can found in Gun like that :

with this Bergen spray gun.
On the other side we speak for 4 times up in terms of price

For a good general purpose gun at a cheap price this Sealey Gold is a bargain and they are a decent gun. I have the predecessor to it and spares are available.

You are able to have only these set up:

Standard Set-Up: 1.4mm
Available Set-Ups: 1.7, 2.0mm

Again personal speaking the S701G Sealey is far better than the Bergen one, and in really good price .
All of them cannot compete the Iwata .
Set-ups come for 1.3mm till 3.5mm !

I'd ignore the cup colour thing, cups are almost consumables, so go by specs. Who knows with cheapies how consistent they are at the factory.
Got 2x mini Bergens with 0.8 setups, use them for bike stuff and small parts - excellent. Some pics on my Minx thread. Before these I used a 1.0 mini.
With bike bits it really isn't a hardship to tip in a bit more paint now & then, small size helps with nooks & things too. Bigger gun/setup might make more sense with big fairing panels. Though just done 8 pieces off a bike with the Bergens, no probs.

Got a Sealey Gold as well, use mine for primers because I've got a spangly Iwata and a JGA for topcoats. It's a decent budget gun, different setups v.cheap for it and being Sealey other parts will be available like packing seals and whatnot.

About any gun should shoot straight colours fine when yr dialled in to it (though I've lobbed a couple of cheapies in the bin). Fine pearls & metallics & candies really show up the differences between guns.

I use 1.8 for primer and 1.3-1.4 600ml cup size, I did have devilbiss but unfortunately it was dropped so had to try a cheap one from eurocarparts and did find it was ok for emergency work and we did get a good finish with celly mix, but if your budget is limited then sealey is a good gun, and can give good results.
