Hi , 2nd attempt at an obelisk, went for broke this time and decided on a six sider.
First I cut six 10mm square bars to length and bent the ends at 45 degrees 100mm from end and then twisted them leaving approx 600mm from the bottom straight.
As I found from my last attempt these are really difficult to hold in the right position when you try to weld them so wanting to make a few of these I made up a jig from an old gas bottle dividing the circumference into six and tacking on some bars, the main uprights are then ratchet strapped to this. (Note the bottle has been purged as per all the advice on here prior to welding it is half filled with water for some ballast and the damaged valve has been screwed back in) the tops are then pulled together and tacked in position.
I then twisted up some bar and bent up different size hexagons having measured the lengths of side required.
I then made up a little finial for the top, and welded the whole thing together.
This is the finished job, which now needs to be painted.
Regards Norm
