Oil cooled blowing fuses

Hi all having moved on from oil questions I'm now onto fuses if anyone can help.

My oil cooled came with a piece of round bar as a fuse,it was perfectly cut to size and obviously did it's job as I was assured it never blows fuses,and now I know why!
My unit has a plunger mechanism and whenever I lift it into the red zone it instantly blows a fuse as soon as I strike an arc.

Is this a common problem associated with standard house electrics and these units?
Anything other than the red zone and it's absolutely fine.

u will find it wont be sufficient to run on a 13 amp fuse. it should be on a dedicated circuit my 180 amp supposed to be run on a 30 amp supply .with the so called anti blow fuse what size breaker or fuse is feeding your your sockets u plugged in to ?

that's what the welder is supposed to be fused at so if that's not blowing there isn't a fault with the welder mine knocks a 32 amp b type mcb out just on plugging it in . a lot of inrush current on a wire wound transformer

my 110b oil welder will stay on without blowing fuses or a fuse but i got wise to it by selecting the low amps before turning it on

otherwise it will blow the 13 amp fuse on one occasion has tripped the main breaker after this i have lowered the oil transformers amps level and its stayed on without blowing the fuse or breaker

My Oxford 180 Amp oil cooled is fitted with a power factor correction condenser but still needs a 240 V 3O A (cooker supply) to avoid the fuses blowing.

So basically lads I need to beef the power supply up to the welder.
I'm not great with electrics but I'm guessing I could have someone come in and wire a cooker socket up to the fuse board in the garage and then hard wire the welder to the cooker point?

a 30amp supply from db using 4.omm cable or 6,omm just fit a 30 or a 45 amp double pole switch near welder and wire it directly in

Run a 6mm cable from your fuse board to an double pole isolator & a 32A blue round socket in the garage & fit a 32A plug on the welder.

On my fuse board it has one trip switch which is highlighted as spare but it's rated at 16amp,can the feed come from that or will the trip switch need to be updated also?

In the industrial world for high inductive surge at start up type loads I normally ask for Type D breakers.
Might be worth looking at s slow blow fuse too before taking it too far back.

You'll need a 32a type c or d 'trip' switch or mcb.

Thanks for all the advice lads I've now got a clear idea of what I'll need to do to get my oil cooled working across it's power range.

A visit to my local electrical outlet is on the cards and I'll get a photo of the trip switches put up.

that's an oldie. u probably can get another make breaker to fit but u would have to take one out as a sample and make sure the bottom mains connection aligns up with the bus bar. is the mains supply feeding db heavy enough

The house electrics under the stairs are mostly what I would call original and by that I mean the fuses are wired,a bit of a pain to do in the dark but that said the later parts of the the house such as the extension and garage are on trip switches.
I've used compressors and other heavy tools over the years and nothing has ever blown a fuse apart from this welder :-)

Would ebay be the best place to buy the switches?

Have you tried it on lower amps with a small diameter electrode - say 60/70 amps with a 2/2.5mm rod?

Hi there it's all guesswork at the minute as the machine I've inherited has no visual reference as to it's make plus the settings plate is missing off the top.
It has a plunger mechanism which is coloured green,yellow,white and red and only when i lift into red does it blow the fuse.
I'm going to get some thin rods and also post a picture of it on here to see if anyone has the same unit who could maybe post a pic of the settings plaque.
