Oil in Air hose

Hi

Do you think Lubricating oil from an air tool can get into the air hose and contaminate a paint job?

I’ve been keeping air tools away from an air hose that is to be used for paint for that reason.

Now Im thinking if I’m not running some type of inline oiling system then the hose is under one way pressure with the tool connected So any oil in the tool itself wouldn’t back feed the line? Especially if I disconnect the tool before draining the compressor tank.

It's possible/likely that some could get in the end but I always have the inlet facing when I connect the hose after oiling a tool and give the tool a blast. If you have concerns the best option is to buy another hose and keep for spraying only. They aren't expensive.

All that said I've sprayed with hoses that have had oiled tools on with no issues but I'm not spraying a car, only little bits

No worries...I was about to buy another hose but was thinking I may have been was being too pedantic....

unless your using air tools all day long don't use an oiler there a waste of money. just put 3 drops of oil in the tool before use .ive had my tools for donkeys years and not had any problem wearing out

Helps if you have two types of fittings - I use "British" PCL for clean air (paint, blasting, blow-off, tyres) and "German" stubby for oily (die grinder, ratchet, impact wrench etc.) so I *can't* mix the hoses...

As said, it's unlikely the oil is coming from an air tool, more likely coming from your compressor.
