Oil tank outlet and filter

I need a new outlet tap and filter for my replacement oil tank. I need to be able to connect two oil lines.

This would probably do

But all the filter just seem a bit naff.

Any thoughts/recommendations? Is the above decent quality?

To be fair the tank outlet is normally a way up and everything settles. There shouldn't really be too much coming out. I cleaned my plastic tank out a couple of years back and it was like the bottom of a muddy pond in there yet I never had any issues with filters.

I think I'm worrying because the tank I am removing needed what you did to yours some time ago! I have removed over 100l of water as I seek out the last of the liquid gold in there! I think moving forwards i might suck 25l a year out of the bottom of the new tank to avoid crap gathering too much.

Maybe. But I just want a decent quality off the shelf solution for this one.

I don't like those combined tap and filter ones. I fitted a decent ball valve to our friends one and then a filter from bes with a replaceable element.

I wouldn't fit anything with any plastic bowl either. I think some do.

Do you have any links to the components in the setup Julian? What did you need to link the valve and filter?

I remember your comments about the clear filter bowl from another thread. I see this from both sides - seeing its filthy would be a good cue to clean it but I get the argument against too!

I'll see what I can find in my email records later but, really, it's nothing more than a decent ball valve, some brass bushes, and a filter. You can adapt down to whatever oil line size you have.

Don't forget to use inserts in the oil line. Its only thin wall. I mean I'm sure someone else would be fine with it, but I'd just use the inserts.

I've just got two of the small aluminium housing filter on mine, one at the tank and one just before the boiler.

Search for oil filter on BES website. They do them with washable nylon filters and replaceable paper ones.

Agree with julianf seperate valve and then the filter assembly go for the best you can get a leaking oil tank is a world of grief.

As above, the trouble with those combined ones is, say, what if try and change the element at some point, and the bowl thread gets stripped, or whatever.

I mean, if they stop making the element, you could at least run without the element, but if the bowl itself is damaged, and youve got a full tank of oil, its problematic.

Id fit a lever valve of whatever outlet size the tank is (basically get the "off" switch as close to the tank, in terms of fittings / leak points as possible) and then adapt down from that with bushes to the filter.

(thats just a random variant - there are other options)

You can buy replacement elements for them. It means you dont have to mess about with the pipe work to change the filter, as you would if you had one of those disposable ones.

So, valve, then bushes etc to filter, then to your pipe.

There will, of course, be other ways, but thats the way ive done it, and will do this one -

(note, im aware that the outer pillars would normally be further in from the edge, but its only a 1000ltr tank, and ive got a centre support also - its way over-engineered for the weight really!)

Keeps it all running while I change tanks . The sight gauge really became another attachment to stabilise the tank!

I have these type of filters, one at tank outlet and one just before boiler (clicky)

& two of these ball valves (fitted closely each side of filter at boiler end) (clicky)

id also fit a drain off closer to the units been used but id also fit one after it has entered the property so i could bleed off any air that may get in the pipe when doing filters nothing worse than getting air in pipes as can cause issues when it hits the unit

So I ordered a tap and filter kit that satisfies my OCD and the advice above last Weds. Shipped Thurs 1st Sept. Company are using Royal Mail Recorded Delivery (and charging £6.50 for this). I thought, oh, that should be ok. It still isnt here. Its four working days now and they dont seem too bothered about helping all the while, the oil prices are going up. What rights do I have with this to get my money back if it isnt here by tomorrow?

I stupidly figured the strikes wouldnt be an issue but I guess they are so kinda my fault for not spotting they were using RM before i ordered.
