old air compressor wiring help please

Hi all picked up a compressor the other day and asked bloke to take tank off so it would fit in car now wireing is messed up here is a pick of it on ebay

you can see it has one wire from motor with a plug and one on top of tank now got it home pluged it in and pop blew everything so had a closer look and it has two wires out of top of the tank one with a plug on and one bare wires so they must have touched and blew heres a pic of it at the mo

so one wire from tank has a plug and one just wires so do I leave the one with plug and the other bare one do I put to motor from tank just its not like that in ebay pics

you should have the mains cable into the pressure operated switch and then a cable out to the motor

Ok cool so next question where do I connect the three wires here is a pic with motor cover off if any one kniws where I need to put earth blue and brown wires

I think live and neutral to the red arrows and earth to any screw that goes to the case of the motor, if you look close on the brass strips you should be able to see some marks where the wires was

Is there any lettering on the terminal block, if so mains goes to U1 & U2

This is a typical setup shown with a reversing switch. Make sure you motor turns the right way or pump lubrication may suffer.

You were right with the red arrows blue goes on th left and brown on the right. Can I put the earth on the top left one with nothing on it or does it have to be to body of the motor some where

theres a screw at bottom right under the conection terminals for the earth on the motor
