Old and odd batteries.

The place where I used to get old style and odd batteries has closed their doors.
Leaving me a bit stuck for finding batteries for older equipment.

For Example try getting hold of a PP7 battery over the counter.

The batteries I am after are a;

15v BLR121 battery for AVO's.




Then I need a No.800 bicycle Torch battery. (image from the net)




Now the hard one.

All I have is a GPO part number.
Battery Dry Cell No. 35. 15 volt.
As it was a AVO I hoped the BLR121 would fit. I could make it fit at a push, but rather not.

Any one who can supply a picture of the above battery.

When I order the batteries I want to make one phone call, to one place and order once.

Any one know a reliable battery supplier?

CPC/Farnell do the PP7, but you can get “no wire adapters” on eBay, which allow the use of a PP3.

I have made up the 800 battery using D cells.
Tested the AVO's using a DC power supply.

But as I said my local battery shop has closed.

It was in a back street when I first knew about it, then a small unit on a trading estate. It was so small it was not mentioned on the Unit address board.

They stocked a good range, or could get a range in.

RS did a round battery at 15v to fit the MOD , GPO and Civil Defence AVO's.
I was going to order from RS. But they didn't have the other batteries in stock. When I spoke to them they were very dismissive of my inquiries.

Strike 1

After 4 phone calls they acknowledged that I was wanting.
They even told me that 15Volt battery was not possible.
I pointed out they listed one on their web page, to be told that the page was out of date. The item is now no longer stocked.

Strike 2.

Local Electrical supplier is looking in getting some in.
