Old Buzz Box to the rescue.

Needed to extract the outer races of two collapsed bearings from two housings offering no opportunity to drift the up from behind. When I had the business it would have been a quick deicate cut with the gas axe and pick them out but alas in retirement no O/A.
Didn't trust myself with the plasma at the angle and restricted access and the same went for the mig so dug out the old Max-Arc buzz box, changed the plug and retrieved a rod from the airing cupboard ( where else would you keep them) !
Couple of practice runs on some scrap and then a bead around the inside of each race to shrink them , let them cool and with a sharp tap they were out.

I dont even bother with the press now, with wheel brgs they can be that tight, I use this method on a daily basis, long wide run with weave, turn em over and they drop out.

I have used my mig to do exactly the same thing, even with no gas it pumps plenty of heat into the race and they either just drop out or a sharp tap on a drift and they're out. OFC the problematic part is usually getting the stub axle off so i can get in with the mig .
