Old Cebora

Hi all just joined the forum, I have just accquired a Cebora 883 that has been lying in a shed for a while,now I know that I would be better buying a new or proven pre-used machine, but as an engineer, stuff that doesn,t work irks me anyway I would like to get it going and use it on some projects I have in mind,So when I plug it in, nowt happens , should the feed motor run without a spool in place, a wiring schematic would be good if anyone has one or if someone could point me in the right direction as to what sequence I should check voltage and continuity on each of the components,

Welcome Devlin maguire. The wire feed motor as with most smaller mig should run even without any wire loaded.
I think the attached are schmatics for your welder (or one very like it) If you follow the link there was a disscusion on this welder and was also posted on this web site. (found by googling "cebora 883")

Ahhh that's better.
The "power in" is at top left (1 and the squiggle, AC symbol!).
Check the ON/Off switch, if ok The item 55 is the coling fan (if fitted) is that running, should be even if the rest of the welder is dead! if not check plug fuse!. If ok then item 27 looks to be a thermal cut out (mounted to either the main transformer or the diode pack (the ally plates) looking at it there is a neon/lamp that would be on if the thermal cutout has operated. If ok then check the power selection switch(s) as some of the smaller welders have issues with the power switches it's worth flicking the switches to and fro then try again. if not working still try measuring the output of the main transformer as it goes into the diode pack item 16. you should see about 15 to 28 VAC depending on power switch setting. That should be enough to get you started.
Note from what I have read this may be a perminant live tourch namly even if you don't pull trigger, any wire sticking out will arc on work so take care when putting gun down (think basic arc welder taht's still turned on)
