Old helmet safety?

I’ve had an old basic helmet for years that uses BS679 NON-R Lens filters. I find it more effective for outdoor use compared to my auto helmet. Plus, I have 20 brand-new (old type) filters!

Are these still adequate? Also, does it matter if I use a clear plastic protective lens in front of the filter?

Assuming it's physical integrity is still good, no reason why not.

I believe it is strongly advised to have an impact resistant plastic slip (to BS EN 166 A) on the inside, behind a glass filter.

Whether you put one of the thin "anti-spatter slips on the outside is up to you, it sure makes the filters last longer though.

The mask is still in good condition, and seems to have been a good-quality purchase many years ago.

I asked about the plastic slips because I don’t recall ever using them at work. I was worried they might have been harmful to my eyes!

i use plain glass in front of the green filter to stop spatter damage cheaper than ruining replacing filter they used them for donkeys years before plastic

would not having the plastic allow UV though, or does the glass filter stop the UV?

Unless it's specifically made to allow UV to pass through, no.
