old Ingersoll rand compressor probkems

Hi guys.

I have an old Ingersoll rand type 30 model 253 that I'm having trouble with.

The first couple of times it runs up it seems fine but after that it seems that the one way valve is sticking open because on stopping it continues to blow out of the centrifugal release thingy.

I have inspected the valve and it seams fine but I can't get it out of the tank as it's well seized in there.

Anyone familiar with this compressor?

It could be the spring in the NRV or the rubber "pastel" could have hardened and maybe cracked.

Think its a different type of nrv.

It's sat in the tank and believe looks more like this.

I see from your photo you have the general purpose fix it all tool close to hand!

I had trouble with mine I replaced it with the modern ones you get nowadays as they are easier to source, you do have to remove the pipework from the head to the tank to get at the NRV mine had a little crack in the valve steel disc.

I have one of those, mine failed in the early 90's-cracked valve- I made a new one.
I think it's just a flat parted off bit of metal which I lapped on the sealing side.
I must have made it from steel as I expected it to rust and I would have to make
another, which I haven't.
