Oops!! - need help with freezer damage.....

Got an absolute bargain off EBAY - a huge Hotpoint fridge freezer, supposed faulty but an easy fix. Anyway, went to pick it up yesterday in my 307 hatchback armed with loads of cushions and blankets to protect it...hmmm it was so big we had to push and shove and get rid of all the 'cushioning material' and it still stuck out way beyond the car!! Managed to get home safely but when we pulled it out there was a deep groove halfway down the side where the boot latch had stuck into it both going in and coming out!

Can I fill this (what with) and spray it with anything successfully to make it look better? I've seen enamel rattle cans for white goods...are they any good??

Pics hard to take as it's white so had to take flash off.....

You could treat it same as a car panel: key it back a bit and use body filler, fine stopper for the final imperfections then spray, although if inexperienced it will not be easy to get an 'invisible' repair.

It's all in the preparation and attention to detail, playing a light across the repair will highlight highs and lows, spraying with primer and then using a flattening block will do the same, you will see the highs rubbing off first.

Hi Steve...thanks for the info. I have done some repair/spraying over the years but more worried that the white 'appliance' spray might be a complete mismatch...unless all appliances are the same white!! Can't be any worse than it is now though so will get some P38 and have a go......

I should imagine there are several shades of white but perhaps not with a significant difference if you do the full panel, the only time I renovated a fridge door that had got a bit scruffy I simply used a cheap cellulose aerosol and it ended up looking very good.

The problem is they take 15 years+ to fill in, the freezer will probably have stopped working by then

Just leave it as is for three months and see if you still give a monkeys about the dent then. Likely you won't. I've been going to fill a slight paint scratch in ours since we got it, and it's still waiting. Don't even notice it any more.

Thought I'd update this thread.....rubbed down, filled with P38, lots more rubbing down, stopped with carplan stopper, more rubbing down, sprayed with poundland primer...good but too dark really, sprayed with supposedly white paint...more yellow than white, sprayed again with 5 cans poundland white ( right shade, crap paint) now up for sale as it was too big!!
