Options for next compressor...?

Currently I have the 90 ltr Wolf Dakota.

Soon enough I'll be needing an air fed mask and enough air to power a decent HVLP gun. I also quite like the idea of using other air tools which are a tad air hungry and I appreciate with my little Dakota it's not really capable of satisfying these needs.

The other option, buy another Dakota which in total will give me 28 CFM or thereabouts and buy an additional receiver, say circa 150 ltr and use the receiver for the HVLP gun. The other Dakota will supply the air fed mask. When I need extra CFM for single tools (above 14) I'll couple both compressors and run em' in tandem.

Suggestions?

Don't dismiss secondhand. A good quality secondhand is going to be better than a new Chinese for same money. I have an ABAC and it is far superior to similar sized Clarke item.

It will require more than a standard plug to power it. According to machine mart it requires 45 amps.

if u already have a half decent one get another and pair them up best of both worlds just use 1 for small air use and 2 for heavy air use

Abac and dari are made in Italy
Dari uses Fini (pronunce feenee) pumps.
As well as Nuair
Abac I don't know what kind of pumps uses but pressure vessel and motor are made in Italy.
Another option would be AEG because both pump and tank are made by Atlas Copco ,the motor is made by AEG

Nicely built machines with slow running cast iron pumps.

If your current compressor is in good condition and you have the space and power, the tandem idea is probably going to be the most cost effective.

Indeed, there's some real bargains out there. The only thing that worries me is how hard/much use the compressor has seen. Worth bearing mind though

It's ok I've a dedicated circuit and appropriate breaker for for heavy load.

Agreed, though what game me some concern is using one of the 90 ltr Dakota's solely for powering the HVLP gun. I figured if a got a receiver of either 150 or say 200 ltr, charged it up completely, this would happily supply the gun when painting rather than relying on the Dakota's 90 ltr receiver?

I have the Clarke XE19...at the time I think thats the biggest CFM I could find that ran on 240v. It's a nice machine...not too noisy. Done a fair bit of spraying with it and it was more than up to the job.

That XE37 is a beast...I probably would have bought that if I'd seen it at the time I bought mine ...45A minimum supply...so I'd have to choose between the compressor and the heating in the winter!

i have the twin 3 hp one it kicks out 28cfm and can run a 3mm jet on portable blast pot at 90 psi no probs and even cuts out as produces too much air it will do yo everything thats needed

For most folk, there are 2 limitations: space available and power supply. In most cases, the biggest single-phase motor that can be started and run from a 13A plug is 3HP, 2.2 kW. 3 HP compressors with 50-150L receivers are very widely available at a range of pricepoints. Broadly speaking, you get what you pay for. Slow-running belt drive units tend to be more expensive than faster-running direct-drive units, but they are usually quieter and last a lot longer. You can connect 2 units together, as long as you can power them.

Make up a condenser out of a few runs of copper pipe with a drain, then get a filter/regulator if you haven't already got one (you can get good quality branded ones on ebay cheap if your canny).
That should take care of any water issues.

You can connect 2 units together, as long as you can power them.

Seen this written here a lot. If you have two tanks of the same pressure rating can you just plug both compressors into the same supply line? Also will they produce the combined cfm of both compressors? Anything else to look out for, thanks M.

Ideally the compressors want to be set so they switch on a different pressures. You don't want them firing up at the same time due to high motor start up currents.

I would also suggest at least a 3/4 BSP sized air supply line and filter regulator. The smaller ones can tend to let moisture through with higher flow rates.

Also air fittings need to be upsized to suit tools. The standard PCL quick release couplers are quite restrictive to air flow especially to high consumption tools.
