ornamental lathe

I got this recently, its abit different to my normal work which is wadkin.

The finish is amazing considering this was made 150years ago. I plan on redoing some of the nickel plating. The parts are made from bronze or gun metal.

I've been hit hard with the bug and am now a member of the society ornamental turners and bought a couple of holtzapffells at auction and this lovely thing.

I have always been intrigued by them, with all of the shiny brass and gears. That last pic is one of 12 known to exist. Ornamental lathes dont come up for sale very often and usually cost silly money.
Prior to this I was working on a deal to get one from a college storage. It ended up getting scrapped. I was gutted and called all of the scrap merchants nearby.

Have you most of the books on the subject? There are a good few on the Internet Archive. Holtzapffel I-IV is there and I think V can be found. Do you know of any pdf version of VI that exists (I understand it was published originally on CD-ROM)? I think there are also more specialist works on IA, such as those on the elliptic and other chucks.

The SOT have some books to buy and have a large library that can be borrowed from. They have some old stuff that can only be viewed at meetings.
