Hi fellas,
After getting myself a portamig decided on having a go at a bird.

Bloody amazing. better than i could ever do, heat it up till its to hot to touch and then dip it in hot candle wax, let it dry and cool naturally, it will look amazing and wont rust, gets into all the nooks and crannys far better than spraying it in laquer

Dr i would need alot of wax and a big tub

I have got some antiqueing fluid in brown and black ,i tried some samples today on some small pieces and im not that happy with the results.
Treated the pieces with pre treatment to get rid of any marks/grease ect..and mixed a small batch of each colour 10:1 thats 10 parts fluid to 1 water . the brown wasnt an even colour it looked a mess if im honest,the black was ok.
Just glad i didnt put it straight on the bird,think i will drown it in jade oil.

You must have got sick and tired of making the feathers and cleaning up the edges.

You would have seen the other stuff ive done when i was using my aldi buzz box its alot better using the mig,its a great machine
it has given me the chance to do something abit bigger.So this is the biggest thing ive done to date.
The feathers were PITA ,i cut the wings and back feathers with the plasma and just cleaned off the dross,it got abit to much doing the feathers this way so i cut long strips with the plasma then used shears to cut strips and then shaped them on bench grinder,either way it took along time
Reguarding the jade oil,whats the best way to apply it ? brush/rag,sponge ?
Does it need pre treating before hand,ive got some cold patination pre treatment.

Just had a look at some of your other stuff, I remember the little bird and chopper.
Jade oi?
I just brush it o bare metal and leave it on a heater to get it dry, takes about 24 hours but seems to do the job.

Awesome work!! I'd love to do a bird of prey but cutting out all those feathers seems a very tedious task I just cant afford to embark on at the moment, one day though Did you use a plasma cutter on them? I like the log too, very nice!!

That sound like a good idea! I definitely want to have a go one day! My next commission is a 3d stainless steel koi which I hoping to start soon maybe after that I'll have a go at a bird. Check out this sculptor from the states http://eartheagleforge.com/sculpture.html Her birds are insane and she actually details every feather!! Her work blows my mind...

Yea what she does is crazy, but she started somewhere just like us and practiced and probably has a huge amount of patience. I will produce stuff like this, one day...

Amazing work on the Raven but do not like it at all.
Far too much detail, almost like photorealistic bronzes or cast resin sculptures.
Sorry guys, cant see the point in it.
If you want a bronze make it in bronze, if you want cast; cast it.
But yes incredible workmanship.

More than likely be cheaper to buy one in bronze,than pay a hourly rate for the time spent doing it.

Fair play. I'd love to be able to work to such a high level. Granted it must take so long so I would only like to do it for myself, just to say I can I'd also like to have a go at sculpting/casting bronze.
