outdoor scultpure laquer or varnish?

i have recently made a sculpture out of steel. i sand blasted it and then did a patination with a mixture of ferric nitrate, greasing oil and white emulsion, all fired up.
i am not quite certain though, of which is the best product to use if it is going to be outdoors and needs protection from rain? this is the first time im doing this so i bit lost.
any help would be great, thanks

Ive not done an outdoor sculpture yet,i think most folk use yacht varnish or similar. Chunkolini will know for sure

Hi Carlota.
First thing name.
I read your name as Car Lotta Metal Sculptor, and was expecting things made out of car parts.
Dummy.
So that was a surprise to see Carlota doing metal sculpture.
Nice piece of work, reminds me of something but I cant remember what.
For outdoor work I rust it with ammonium chloride, leave it for a few weeks then scrub it with a scouring pad to get rid of any loose rust then slap on a thick layer of yacht varnish I usually use satin finish, though matt works well.
You would need to remove any grease or oil. I usually do two coats to make sure everything is covered.
I would suggest making a few test pieces and leaving them outside to see how it works.
it is a nice durable finish that can be recoated a couple of years down the line without stripping it all off.

This was taken about two years after the first coat.

you can get it powder coated in clear and will last years.
