Here it is. All made with stuff I had at home. Legs need cutting down to size to give me the working height I want. then feet will have some pound shop chopping boards stuck on to minimise water wicking up the legs. It gonna sit where it is, just outside the playpen.

Quick sand and a coat with decking oil then fit the chequer plate top

Some sturdy pieces of timber there Parm. Are you gonna fit a vice?

You can throw a tarpaulin type sheet over it when not in use-winter weather etc.

I have the option of three different vices. I do want one but mind if that it’s gonna rust to death. I’ve thought about a removable vice but that become a PITA for those quick jobs

Taper is 10 degrees. Whole thing is bloody heavy

You say that, But couple of bolts & an impact would take next to no time to add or remove

If the vice was wiped over once a month with an oily rag (not the handle), I think it would be ok through winter. They tend to be chunky enough to withstand a bit of surface rust.

My take on the outside vice. That's not how it normally is, but an indication of how I did it. It's used mostly for holding while I weld rather than heavy battering work. The angle stops it twisting when using it as a vice and is bolted on so it can swivel easily. The bolt came from a cut down electricity pole and I use a shackle, also found, as a hand turnable nut. It's same diameter as woodworking benchcramps.

The timber is a scrap pier facing, 300mm x 300mm greenheart.

Tesco’s finest 2 quid chopping board, cut up to make end grain protectors, legs have had a going over with some 60 grit in the machine sander

The plate was covered in some sort of concrete slurry. An hour or so with the wire brush in the angle grinder and it looks like this

Drilled and counter sunk the top and bedded it down to the frame with 3 tubes of grip fill. Some 6x50mm screws hold it down
Cleaning it shows the the plate has had a tough life. Lots of pitting. It will be good enough for my amateur bodgery

The cut out and notch are as is. I’m sure they will be useful?

One coat of used engine oil thinned down with a little petrol on all the woodwork and it looks like this

It’s now sat where I want it

Quite happy with the result.

I didn’t have any. These will do. Some kind of passivation coating. I’ve had them on some woodwork in the garden. Been good after 5 years
