Over coating 1k

I have a subaru impreza that in the past has had a repair on front wing and it appears it was done with 1k clear coat the colour match is ok just the clear is not perfect, could I lightly sand and put a coat of 2k clear on the top as the 1k is a bit dull or does it need sanding down below this coat and need new base and clear applying and then blending into the door.

I have done this successfully in the past, just hit the old panel with 800 and straight over with clear you however don't need to flash it down the door, a straight butt match will be fine as there is no colour involved.

My only worry would be is that it has yellowed from UV and all the new 2k will do is make it look nice and shiny but a bit yellow still.

Have you tried cutting the 1k clear and re-polishing?

I have tried polishing the 1k clear and it looks fine it just doesn't hold the shine as long as the rest of the car.

Daz, can I ask which 1k clear you used?

no idea as the wing was painted before I had the car, its fine with a good layer of wax but doesn't last so I wanted a more permanent solution

Sounds like there are problems with the existing 1k clear coat to me. Yeah sure a 2k clear coat is more durable but from what you are saying this 1k dulls off in a couple of weeks which suggests it's either utter rubbish 1k or there is something wrong with it.

give it a grey scotch pad and/or 1000 wet then overcoat it , should hold up much better
