I have an albee oxy for carry around with propane for cutting. By crikey it's dear when you exchange even if there is no rental. I try and not use it as a result.
For welding rather than cutting you might not be so bad. I hear of people in the states with different set ups using propane to weld! I never thought it could be suitable but apparently its happening- mind you the main source is Internet
If you can that's a big drop in cost
