Oxygen and cutting gas

What is the smallest size I can get away with and an average price in SW England please.

I don’t know what the size bottles were called, but you used to be able to buy a rucksack frame type affair with a tiny cutting set on.

We had one on a ship I was on for burning the tow bridle in emergencies

Yeah they were replaced with stihl saws for that reason.

Shouldn't be doing much cutting. Just my new to me OA kit has that option

I think nearly all the rent free places will do them. Much of a muchness really. SGS (I think?) are giving money back to members?

Local BOC place wants me to open an account and pay, approximately £14 a month rent on each bottle.

But will not allow me to swop out to a bigger bottle in the future with out a new contact.

Rent free is the way to go, for my use.

I fell out with BOC because of their practises. The last straw, among many like you describe above, was when you take the bottle to be exchanged they charge you £16. Then refuse to lift it on your truck - 'elf n safety mate'. I have several bottles of whatever at anyone time so decided enough was enough and went to Hobby Weld. Not the cheapest but the guy up here is nice.

It works out about the same for me with BOC. I lose on the high turn over bottles like Argoshield, but gain on the ones I dont use much of like Oxygen or Acetelyne so its about even.

I had to look now you mentioned them. They are - air products.com There are a few in Mainland Scotland and one in Lerwick. Plenty in England but some are just agents I think. Was that them that went in with Linde? Or was that Air Liquide?

Well this morning I went hunting for OA gas, went for local, places, as I want ease when I need new gas.

Place one.
You need and account either for BOC or any of our rent free bottles.
That is a simple form to fill out now, first 8 weeks payments in advance and you take the bottles away with you today.

BOC and rent free. But not at the prices I wanted to pay. But worth a second thought if needed.
But free vend coffee.

Me. I will have to think about it, I may be back.

Sorry mate, we don't do gas any more, we get ours from up the road, tell them Mark sent you.

Yes we have the bottles, this price. But you need an adaptor to fit your hoses at £10.

It's nice when you can get somewhere local with good customer service.

My local SGS agent was at a place I didn't know existed even though its only 20 miles away! It's now become my favourite shop as they have a great range of tools & garage equipment with friendly helpful staff.
