Paint Booth Air flow

Hi All,

I have recently set-up/built a spray booth room, I have a paper filter with a 450 diameter Gallito extractor fan box, I also have clean filters to bring in clean filtered air.

I am having a few issues with calculating the air flow within the booth assuming there is a calculation for this for effective filtration and extraction.

Before I feed in more details/pictures, am I on the correct forum page to ask this question.

a pro spray booth moves around 8000 to 1000 cubic feet per minute CFM a massive amount of air

i dont think your 450mm fan will be man enough for the job
a similar size fan for a booth that will move 3500 to 5000 cfm would have a 2hp motor

a paint booth always has negative pressure aswell
ie enough air flow to keep overspray clear but a restricted inlet so as to achieve the negative pressure

Many thanks for your response, sorry for the delayed update but been busy at work.

Okay, the setup I have is a follows:

Extractor fan is a Gallito make, it is 450mm inside width and 505mm deep using a 1.1Kw motor, I am not sure what flow rate this is but I could get that info from Gallito tomorrow.

The fan is situated in a filter box at the back of the booth, box size is 600mm by 2400mm by 2400mm, I am using a paper filter at the bottom of this box, the size of this filter is 900mm high buy 2400 wide, the fan sits on top of this filter box 2400mm high.

The booth size is 4m x 2.4m x 2.4m, it is a sealed room, the door incorporates 2 filters for clean air flow, filter sizes are 600mm x 600mm each.

I am getting allot of over spray, especially when primering I am left with the dry primer on the floor.

I removed one of the filters from the door today and it worked a little better.

Can anyone tell me how to best achieve the balanced flow in the booth, do I increase the size of the intake filters or somehow reduce the extractor fan speed.

Is there a way of testing this without waiting till I need to primer.

you need a fan able to clear your booth space and a bit more besides then restrict the incoming air so that it still clears the overspray and you will also achieve the negative pressure

i will be very surprised if your fan is upto the job

Thanks for the response.

That is the fan that was recommended for the size of the booth by Gallito sales, since I have got the setup now, is there any adjustments I can make to improve this setup?
