Paint doesn’t suck

Or rather the gun doesn’t! Just dug out the spray gun after 15 months of inactivity,everything is clean still,yet the paint won’t draw thru the gun the needle is bone dry,some paint exits from the breather hole in the lid,so I assume it’s pressuring the can rather than vacuuming?
Any pointers to help please.

start by taking the nozzle and needle out and checking for old paint , then see if thinners /white spirit will spray

What gun is it?
A slack aircap will cause those symptoms.
Depending on the gun, there can be a seal behing the fluid tip that's cracked or perished letting air into the fluid tip.
