paint spots

Hi Guys, wonder if any one can help with this problem, painted the bonnet of my rs2000 a few weeks ago, bonnet was stripped to bare metal, pre wiped, etch primed, primerfillerd, 3coats of base coat black, then clear coated, this was painted in a both, the next day there was millions of pin spots under the clear and when tried to wet sand and buff they apear to get worse. so far this has been done 3times and getting a bit sick of spending pennies now, it seems to be a problem between the primer and base coat because its deffo under the clear. could it be the primer not dry enough after wet sanding, altough it was left in the both to dry out, any help welcome CheeRS Dave

micro blisters maybe? too much product too soon , not enough flash off between coats , baked too soon can do it too

If this has happened 3 times now, you might have silicone contamination where you are doing the spraying?

Cheers guys dont think its micro blisters as they seem to pop upwards these are more like little pinholes but to small to be fish eyes, and they appear to be everywear, even tried leaving the oven just on spray temp an not bakeing temp. airlines are all dry 2 water traps, mite try out of oven and just let it airdry it could be one of many 2k problems. apart from silicone fish eyes and micro blisters i cant say ive come accross many issues like that

maybe try the same paint on a scrap panel , could it be stale or the wrong hardner etc

also is there any pattern to it or even all over

Well i've been painting for 30yrs plus and this is the first time i have come across it, thats why i thought it might be a 2k related thing the base coat and clear are both new tins but it was also repainted with the original paint the car was painted in, there is no pattern it is all over the bonnet, the bonnet has been stipped to bare metal twice.

id try some paint on something scrap...do one with primer , one without and so on and see if you can stop it

are they bubbles that burst or what

Nope they just appear as tiny tiny pin holes but they are under the clear as they cannot be blocked out, i dont think its solvent as they are far to small. i cant even put up a pic as they wont show they are far to small, its as the clear starts to dry they just seem to be there ahggggg. lol. think i might try leaving the base coat overnight block sand then clear after stripping it all back to metal again,

ive had a similar problem once and it was the 2k activator gone off, changed it for a new tin and no problems

if youve been painting years then you havent made any silly mistakes , i recon its a dud product , would at least be worth talking to them and see if you can get a replacement tin
