That must have been some years ago !I used nitromors on my 101, that too was gagged in army paint. It took a few layers off at a time
Could you replace the rivets?I kind of concur. If starchem and celly won't soften it, epoxy isn't going to be a problem. Trouble is, the amount of layers and unevenness of substrate where bits have been scraped/peeled off. Mechanical is not easy as in the case of the bonnet, it's full of rivets which the client wants to retain.
Yep, see post 2!That must have been some years ago !
Which millennium?
The current formulation you could strip more paint by peeing on it.
@norsa Some of the older paints used by Land Rover set like vitreous enamel and the only way you will get them off is by mechanical means.
Military paint - Lord only knows what was used, some washes off like emulsion, some you need to use mechanical means.
Either which way if it is that stable why remove it?
Isolate it and paint over?
P.S. Land Rover panels of that age were alodined before painting.
MSD for Alodine
Will it hand block to at least feather out the scratches etc or does it just flake when you try ?I kind of concur. If starchem and celly won't soften it, epoxy isn't going to be a problem. Trouble is, the amount of layers and unevenness of substrate where bits have been scraped/peeled off. Mechanical is not easy as in the case of the bonnet, it's full of rivets which the client wants to retain.
Count them first...Could you replace the rivets?
Oh dear God, one of those ...Apparently the replacement rivets have a different profile to the O.E
Are they solid rivets then? There are so many layers that feathering would cause wobbles beyond the accepted Landy wobbles and given the value of a series one, I don't want to have to refinish at my own expense 12 months down the line where one of the layers sinks or pickles or micro blisters, hence the full metal. Apparently the replacement rivets have a different profile to the O.E and I don't know anyone who has the equipment to set them. Not actually checked the price of the setters to be fair nor ever set any. I'll need to remove some trims at some point though that are riveted on. Has anyone got knowledge of how the setters work?

Oh yes.Are they solid rivets then?
