Painted plywood for shed walls?

Will it last if I used decent outside wood paint? Is it a bad idea? Cheers.

Probably not advisable, but if clad with something else, and given the opportunity to breathe , wooden structures can endure respectably well...

ive got painted plywood for the wood store its a hybrid of both plywood and osb board

the plywood had delaminated whilst the osb has lasted a bit longer

the replacement for the wood store is going to be steel roofing sheets instead as i have them spare at the moment

It will depend on what grade ply, which paint and environment conditions (how damp, ventilation etc), but exterior ply and appropriate paint should be good, HEAVY coat the edges of ply!

My experience from having both in my unheated slightly damp garage is that unless the ply or OSB is bone dry and painted both sides with a quality oil paint or wood worm will take up residence and there will be a faint musty smell after ten or so years .
I removed it all, put on an insulated Kingspan roof and double skinned the walls making a 3 inch cavity using lightweight concrete blocks & stainless steel screw in wall ties & sealed the floor with Finnigan's industrial floor sealer .
Putting in a new insulated electric roller door helped a lot as well but when we get an onshore southerly , rain does come in down the sides of the roller door guide channels.

Its a bad idea unless you can keep it bone dry, ply and moisture dont mix!

I’d use tongue and groove, ply will not last as long.

Paint raw wood fitted to damp places both sides with oil paint ..old proper style carpenters did that to skirting board , some I removed were the best part of 100 yrs old & still rot , mould and insect free .

H3 treated plywood should be fine painted.

Dry wood does not warp if painted both sides as well....

I get the impression the idea is to clad the outside of the shed in plywood. In which case the answer is no.

You can get a few years of life out of OSB liberally covered in bituminous paint. But if you want it to last, clad it in... well cladding.

Used on the inside it should be ok, but caberfloor is cheaper and moisture resistant, it's what I used to line the inside of my workshop - more robust than plasterboard.

Replaced all the decking outside(as rotted) with OSB sprayed 2 coats of bitumen paint on both sides,sealed edges with tigerseal when layed,that was 2 years ago,still going strong,oh and its covered with fake grass,her indoors loves it

I used shuttering grade 18mm ply for some sliding doors to the workshop. Painted both sides with microporous stain, outside redone every few years. They lasted about 30 years before starting to delaminate at which point I covered the outside with aluminium from an old caravan. However if the bottom edge of the ply in a shed wall is damp it will not last.
