Painting a Land Rover A Bar

I bought a A bar to go on my Landy.
It was a little rough around the edges (black covering peeling off and some rust) So I attacked with a derusting brush on the drill and removed the flakey bits. Then wiped with thinners to remove the dust/grease. Left it it dry and then gave it a good coating of Kurust.
Then applied a few coats of high build primer and wet'n'dryied between coats to get it smooth.
There are a few areas of pitting in the paint
Hoping these would go i gave it a coat of black gloss. They didnt go. :-(

How can i remove these? I was thinking of body filler and then sand back and respray?

Need pics to have a better guess as to what caused the pits.

Its a bit hard for pics now as it has a couple of coats of paint.
The pitting is like when you get a rusty piece of metal, get rid of the rust and your left with small pitting
I shall try the body filler method and see what happens.

If it's that kind of pitting -- and not a reaction -- then filling should do the job.

Ive bought some Isopon P38 filler so will give it a go with that. In hindsight, matt may have worked better :-(
Will see what gives once its been filled and sanded.

Well, I gave the bar a quick skim of filler and then sanded it back and it does look better.
So a few more coats of black paint and it looks much better....Until it got knocked then i chipped the paint work :-(

Hopefully the paint will harden over time. Ive used Tetrosyl Black Gloss. Would a clear laquer help to protect the paint?
