Painting over exsiting Galvanised steel help?

Hi

I have been asked by my daughters school if i would recover their pollytunnel (over the school paddling pool) and repair the doors at either end. The doors are in a bad state and need some sections replacing, they are galvanized steel and i was going to paint them after i have repaired them. I have some Rustoleum Combi Colour left over from another job and some Fosroc Galvafroid. Can anyone tell me what the best way to paint them is? can i go straight over the steel with the rustoleum or would i be better priming it first with the galvafroid?

There are galvanised-specific primers available (B&Q) so I'd read the labels on your paint tins to see if they're suitable.

yep, use the galvafroid first.

If you are repairing with plain material, id be incling to use any decent primer and top coat.

Normally for galv, you would need to wash it down with a mordant solution. This basically kills the active zinc.

All that time weathering etc, should have done the job sufficiently anyway.
