painting road wheels....

been doing quite a lot, these last weeks........got fed up with the masking off.......
so just thought, to protect the tyres from the paint why not use something else.....?

decided to try liquid soap, u know washing up liquid.....works for me, paint don't stick at all......
obviousley the soap needs to be wet, just did 1 rim at a time....(all rims prev prepped)...
I used a 3" paint brush.......
just the first coat of paint......

this is my wheel spinner, works a treat......

hope this may help somebody out......?

was doing exactly the same from 15.00 -1700, with the same wheels!.... quick scuff on with the primer , synthetic enamel tomorrow, if they have dried overnight,

Why not cut it and maybe use a sheet of acetate correctly cut to protect tyres?

We strip the wheels and have them shot blasted and powder coated at work - real proper lasting finish.

never have the time for proper wheel strip downs and I don't have the gear anyway........
here they charge 20 euro's to remove and refit a tyre as a min.....
so they get what they get (wheels)........
besides this way is with the soap is faster plus a nice wash off does the trick.......
just sayin........

Sounds like a Top Tip ...so do you use the washing up liquid neat ,Frank or 50:50 with water ? .....I've been thinking of doing the truck wheel but thinking of the hassle of taking the wheels off two at a time and driving to the nearest tire place in a borrowed truck ...just did my head in ....

then take them for new tires and the monkeys rip sh....it out of them getting the tire on then whack lead weights on them with an ammer ohhi forgot . don't clean the rust off the rim seals then 2 weeks later you take them back and tell them and they sneakily clean them off then then tell you you had a nail in the tire and try charging you another 12 quid

well if your painting them you have a vested interest not to damage them when fitting. most others don't. if its not ally they just rive them off and on

Having your own tyre bay does help alot.
