Painting sub frame and suspension parts help

Hi all

Just a quick question

After i have had the subframe and rear beam/suspension parts and some varoius brackets grit blasted on my BMW what would be the best way to re coat the parts.

Im thinking of getting them powder coated black or are there other methods, I do not know if there is something else that can be just as good and will last and look good, Matt or glossy effect i dont mind.

I will be painting my Bug chassis in this soon, I used POR15 on the floorpans last september but I'm not happy with it as it is starting to peel away.

One trick with most coatings is to file off any sharp edges -- look at any production powder coated part, and this is always where the coating starts to peel off.

Some powder coating places offer zinc coating prior to powder. That would be a good move.

Im new to restoring cars that 121 stuff looks good, Do people use that for undercoat or primer? that might look good in my engine compartment as a undercoat it seems a reasonable price too.. I have been replacing the front end of my E30 M3 so at the moment the new parts welded in are stock bmw black painted and i have used galv weld through paint on my spot/plug welds where appropriate..

A lot of the mini guys use POR15 on subframes & suspension components. The surface prep is quite important, which may cause problems. However, I don't think you have to buy into the POR 'family' of products like Metal Prep, just ensure it's as clean as it can be. I wipe it down with thinners and that seems to do a great job. The advantage of POR15 over powercoating (and possibly other products) is that chips can be easily repainted.
