Painting wheel centres

Look at me with all the questions!

As part of my paint job I am also planning on painting the centres on my split rims.

The problem I have is that the centres are a complex mesh pattern and I can see the centre being a right swine to key for paint.

They look like these …

I was just wondering if anyone has any good ideas on how I could key the centres for paint relatively with minimal effort?

yes get them bead or soda blasted

If they are already painted just paint over that.

Grit or aluminium oxide blasting, not beads. Bead blast the bits you want to polish.

as said above fine grit / sand / or aluminium oxide mask of the rims with gaffer tape if u dont want them marked

Hmm - seems blasting is the main option.

If they are already painted just paint over that.

Surely the paint wouldnt adhere very well if I didnt bother keying the surface? If I can get the paint to adhere without having the blast them then thats going to save alot of messing around.

scotch brite you can even pull them back and fourth through the holes

You WILL need to key the surface somehow, be it, sanding, blasting or using scotchbrite etc. Blasting is probably the easiest option on a set of lattice wheels like that. Sanding by hand doesn't bear thinking about!
