Just a little update on what i've going on and probably a few questions to come
Picked up a pair of old ceboras, one taskmaster branded (mega mig 185), one snap on (pro mig 160), both sold as not working
Heres where i'm at, the good points, both machines power on respond to the torch trigger, or shorted trigger wires in the snap ons case since the torch is missing, ocv goes up and down with the selector switches as it should.
The bad, the Taskmaster i've decided to tackle first, and it seems to have a pretty annoying problem, its erratic in its response to the trigger press, sometimes it clicks on and off like its in spot welding mode, sometimes not, when i initially got it, i pulsed the trigger a bunch of times without touching any of the pots (with the spot welding pot clicked off) and it came out of it and started to behave itself, sort of anyway, when you click the spot weld timer on, the pot only seems to do something for maybe the first third of its rotation then behaves like it isnt there, wire feed runs constantly, the pause timer only does something for the first tiny fraction of its rotation, and then after that just stops the feed motor dead permenantly rather than timing the pause, i've tested the pots in place though and they both seem to work as they should, resistance goes up consistently as you turn the pot up, although they're very high values, north of 470k, other than that its a pretty basic machine with not much to go wrong and providing the rectifier is good i dont see a reason why it wouldnt work properly, so i have some poking around to do.
The snap on is a bit of a sorry state, its been in a fire at some point, maybe even caused it who knows, that probably explains why the torch is missing, must have been badly damaged, however, like the other one it does do what it should do when you short the trigger wires, no spot weld timer on this one so a simpler board and less to go wrong, the internals of the machine seem to have been protected from what ever sort of fire it was in as its pretty ok looking inside, nothing scorched or looking like its been drenched in water, contactor is noisy/buzzy and the wire feed is VERY rough, erratic, even with no tension on it, not sure on if thats wonky power getting to the motor for some reason or the motor itself, yet to test that and i'll probably try and sort the other machine first anyway.
I will throw some pictures of the boards and insides up when i get a chance on the off chance its interesting or useful to anyone, like i said this is all very early days, just dragged them in the garage.
