Parkside helmet - Batteries getting warm

Hi Folks, I'm a newbie and looking for a little advice on this cheapo Lidl helmet.
It came in with a mixed lot from an auction. When I fit new batteries the low battery led comes on and I noticed the batteries started to feel warm. A short perhaps ? Has anyone else had this happen ?

Hello and welcome to the Forum.
These are the batteries for the built-in LED "torch", I assume ?
What type of battery, and how many? With these new batteries fitted, does the LED light come on when switched on manually, or when the helmet is moved to a dark location?
Apart from the light, does the auto-dim function work correctly? It can be tested by pointing a TV remote control at it.
