Parweld XR916H is this a ok noobs mask

New to the mig game (thanks to owning a battered bruised & disintegrating transit mk5 ) & thanks to the portamig fanboys on here i've put an order in for the 215.

Now i'm looking for a mask & after tooo much time searching for the right one i feel that the parweld ticks the right boxes it's in my hobby use price range , low amps, larger view ,grinder setting & replaceable batteries .

It would seem that it's a fairly new model & as such there's seems to be little or no user reviews out on the www, has anyone here got any views on this before i click the b.i.n http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Parweld-X...ain_3&var=&hash=item2320abc95a#ht_2048wt_1005 , any advice much appreciated.

I own a Red Clobe from SWP . This seems real good budget helmet .I like the fact that goes low to the 20 Amp so you could use for Tig. I have a Parweld Tig torch and it is well made.As not own one myself some other members give better feedback!

Thanks for reply Bill, seems a bit thin on the ground here at the mo, must be down to the bank holiday weekend.

I've taken the plunge & ordered the parweld, will post how i get on with it.

Belch I've got the xr915 Which looks very much like the 916 which I bought back in july 2010 (did not know it had been so long ago!) has worked a treat. It is my 1st auto helmet. Hope yours has the same adjustment forward and back as that makes such a difference. Note the 915 frount cover lens has rounded corners where the 914? is squared so would not directly replace so had to shpo around for spare lenses but did find some. Also in use if you find it's not switching when you strike up and arc check the "grind" switch has not been knocked to the grind position (as it's on the side, out side). To test its operation put helet on, look at your tv, get cigg lighetr and spark it near helmet and tv will look black for a fraction of a second. Sensors and switches are there for working. I have found that with a new mig shroud (all nice and shinny!!) if the sun catches it, it can trigger.

ps if you are doing welding under cars, get your self a hood. Look up "mgspanky" seller (no it's not me!!) Makes for less sparkes in the ear and gives the wife a laugh when you forget to take it off in house.

Thanks Mike some good info there,

It came today & looks pretty good in metallic silver, only opened the box about 1/2hr ago, must say i'm quite impressed.

The front cover is rounded same as your 915, it also has the forward & back adjustment with the sensitvity, grind & shade settings laid out nicely on the outside with delay inside.

I like the fact that they have made battery changes possible with pull out holders on either side ( part of the internal casing for shade & sensitivity ). Tried it out & all functions operate as they should , just got to wait for the portamig to arrive to see how it p
erforms doing some proper work.

The hood does sound like a good idea so i'll look into that .
