Anyone got experience of easy to use pointing mix?
Indian sandstone slabs. Reasonable area
Some has gone, a lot is ok, some is not, looking to prep and repair in stages/areas.
i prefer the 3-1 mix but many do the 4-1 mix whilst many just do a brush in whilst dry i prefer to mix it and fill inbetween whilst the dry mix is just watered and hopefully it all goes hard
I’ve done 4:1 in the past and it’s ok, as long as the sand isn’t too soft. I use a pointing gun, so add a bit of plasticiser to the mix. Wouldn’t bother with a dry mix myself, it always ends up being full of voids and air and turns to dust in six months.
Just done 2 0f ours with Easy Grout, and it is there are 2 ranges with different colors but am told basically the same product but one is slightly rougher finish.
Had a look at one done 18 months ago all still there solid.
Did I say it was easy and quick, rout out the old stuff pour the bag of grout on patio wet it and slabs well brush it over the slabs to fill in joints color does not stain the slabs
If you have overhangs you can seal them by using duck tape leave till stuff is dry, no unsightly gaps
There is a video on the EG
If you're doing it in this hot weather, then a watering can is useful for wetting the slabs so the moisture doesnt get sucked out of the pointing mixture too fast which can leave your pointing shrinking away from the slab edges before it's bonded.
done quite a few slab fillings over the years and only ones lasted was a 3 to 1 dampish mix in over cast weather so its not to hot
mine done at home same way been there 8 years and no cracks or holes yet
first hope your slabs are fully layed on a fully bed not dob and dabed as water gets under freezes and damages the base that then lets the slabs move and no matter what infill you use wont last that long
drop in the gap tap down with side of trowel to fill it up full
