Decided to have a go at some perch chasing some fry.

wolly,just made from 1mm mild steel sheet,i also have a pike and piranha further down the page in the sculpture section.

Nicely done, yet again you have mounted them nicely and avoided 'art on a stick' syndrome.
I was struck by how familiar the fish were and found some old shots from years back.

How did you do the spot pattern ? Did you spot weld the inside before you welded the fish up ,they look like heat marks.
Nice fish by the way.

To do the spots I used oxyacetylene, the steel is about 1.2mm thick so it was a question of moving quickly.
I made a few of these years back and never touched sheet metalwork again.

Apologies to fish lovers but I can't say fish are my favourite things. I find them boring on their own but I love the scene you have created. Makes them stand out and a good lesson for me, create a picture not just an object.

They're nice Strada,

Really good job on the mouths and scene composition.
Are all the parts mild steel? the 'flora' looks very bright, in fact the whole thing looks brighter than i would expect from MS. Looks like there is a subtle pattern on the Perch's backs, grinder work or something else?
Are they lacquered or will they be coated in some way?

Yes,its all mild steel,its shiny because ive gone over it with a wire brush in the drill.The pattern on the back is done with an engraver just to show the stripes off a bit.
The finish will just be jade oil,although i am toying with the idea of using some antiquing fluid i have,to add some colour.
