i have a compressor with a 5.5 hp 3 phase electric
motor and i'm concidering putting a 6 hp petrol
engine on in its place, which do you think would
be cheaper to run hopefully it'll be used all day
every day.
cheer's,john.
I would say electric would be cheaper to run. After all if it was cheaper to provide 5hp with a generator than draw it from the mains every house would have its own generator.
Also when the tank is full an electric unit would switch off, whereas a petrol engined one would keep ticking over. You also have to consider the higher servicing costs of an engine.
