Photochromic lens to arc weld?

Pls can I use a photochromic glass to do arc welding? Would the lens darken automatically? Is there any negative side effect(s) on using it?

Not a good idea.

Get a fixed shade mask or an auto darkening mask.

To much UV in your eye leads to cataracts.

No, simple as that.
You want something that's either dark all the time or darkens the instant you strike an arc and lightens as soon as the arc stops, photochromic lenses don't do that.

Photochromatic glass takes seconds to darken, you need something that darkens in milliseconds.

Please don't use goggles. You're exposing your face to high levels of UV. Skin cancer in later life .

For the price of a decent mask it's no worth the risk not to use one..

OMG! Most of the welders around me use just sunglass/goggles.

Thats a very very quick way to end up blind , even tacking without a mask and closing your eyes eventually cooks your eyes . Quite a common thing in the shipyards here in days gone by.

if the glasses dont have the correct lenses in ,,, yes . gas welding lenses are for gas welding but
even with the correct lenses for arc the radiation will be hitting your face and thats a cause of skin cancer , theres a reason full face masks are full face .

its not the smoke ,,, its the radiation ,, basically sunburn

I got "sunburnt' arc welding with goggles on, not pleasant!.

Was in a rush at work and my welding mask was at home.

Never again..
