Piping Compressor

Hi lads,

I have read the tutorial about the piping.

So I am thinking about piping my compressor with copper 15mm 1/2 bsp.

My compressor is in the garage (which is not big about 15 sqm), and I woud like it to stay here for the moment it will make my life easier.
I could move it to another room but it is a bit of work them.

I am wondering in the DIY solution how long the piping need to be.
I was thinking having maybe 1 or 1.5 meter of pipe, is it enough?

Or I should go for more?

Just measure your garage with a view to running a pipe round the inside perimeter with drops where you need to use the air.

Obviously we can't say how much pipe you need without knowing the actual dimensions of your garage!

The dimension of my garage are 5 long by 3 width.
My question is more How much piping is required to get a descent air cooling system?

Basically I could do only 2m of piping or more if more is required.

Do you know what I mean?

Personally I wouldn't worry too much about the cooling aspect, 22mm would be better if it really was an issue.

You could consider running the pipe near the floor where the air is cooler, but it would be more vulnerable to knocks.

Running the pipework at tank pressure and fitting regulators at the outlet would help too as the flow in the pipe would be slower, allowing it more time to cool down.

All depends what size receiver you have on the compressor, small receiver = hotter air

ok I will add a filter regulator, I have it already. I might go for 22mm does this will help with the air drop?
It is also a factor for me as the compressor is max 8 CMF FAD. I suppose longer is the piping bigger is the drop?

I use a B&Q tap connector flexi pipe from the receiver to 15mm copper pipe for a 3m run to a filter reg. Then either a 10 or 5m hose is connected depending how far away I'm working.

this works good for me.

the receiver output pipes are 1/4 bsp and i use compression fittings to the copper pipe and the reg is 1/2 bsp.

i have used 25mm blue water pipe to plumb mine in as copper pipe was way to expensive!

Be careful if you decide to go down the plastic route - some plastics will shatter if inpacted when under pressure.

The larger diameter pipe will present less resistance to airflow, and present a larger surface area for cooling. The flow rate (cfm) will be lower too, thus giving the air mmore time to cool down.

This may be true for plumbing pipe, which I dfinitely wouldn't use for compressed air but the purpose made plastic air line pipe will not have that problem. I've installed a few systems with it and it's fine, some have been in use for over 10 years.

plastic plumbing pipe is rated 20bar at room temp but this drops to about 3 bar at 80C according to the stuff i used so i presume that it gets soft at a fairly low temperature.

It's the tendancy to shatter that's the problem.

i used copper at this end a bit pricy thought, but it was easy to get just down the road.
I took 15mn diameter, I will put the compressor outside the garage in the shed behind it will be better for my ears :-)
