I'd go for the veg oil scenario it's caramelized because the oil was mucky and not preheated to give optimal combustion .
If it were a normal oil prob it would be black and grotty .
sure it's not the turbo seals as well that 1.9dci is renowned for turbos failing
and the pcv system blocking they will give all the same symptoms
those pistons don't seem to have much blow by the skirts are too clean
