Hi Guys,

I have bought a Wolf dakota 3hp belt driven compressor Now I know they have gone bust but after reading a fair few posts the parts should be interchangeable with machine mart ones.

Ok so Im thinking to take off the regulator on the compressor and fit a 1/2 one? Should the 1/2" regulator be BSP to screw into the compressor?

Which regulator should I get and I would want a filter/water trap so should I get one with it built in?

I intend to connect the 1/2 regulator to 1/2hose using quick connectors and then having another quick connector on the end so my tools can plug into them. ATM i have a cheap impact wrench which is 3/8 my sprayer are different and so on. So basically Im only stopping down the hose just before the tool.

Does that sound right?

Basically, you can do what you like with outlets from the receiver, it won't affect the pumping or control side (just do not remove any piece with the relief valve attached, but that's probably under the pressure switch/on-off box)

If you remove the standard regulator, make sure you get fittings that fit the threads properly in the receiver. Alternatively, leave it in place, and fit an additional filter-regulator in the threaded plug at the end of the receiver. Be aware if you move the comp around a lot it can leave these positions prone to dmage/getting snapped off.

There are a few good tables on the net with pressure drops against length for pipes, but basically 3/8" over anything up to 10-15m is going to give negligible pressure drop. If you've a tool that really wants short bursts of very high flow, then you may be better with a connection straight onto the receiver with a ball valve. You won't sustain flow rates on a 3hp machine to really warrant much bigger, in my opinion.

Use UNI couplings over PCL, they're higher flow.

I'd just use a filter regulator, and then I've actually ordered some inline water seperators (only about £6 each) to fit to my two cheapo spray guns. I'd never use an oiler, if you do you'll probably need to keep oil hoses and non oil hoses seperate to stop chances of contamination. A couple of drops into an air tool of tool oil is all I give it, seems to be perfectly adequate.

I took the plug out of a cheap compressor to find the manufacturing tecnique is to pierce the hole then thread it, only gives 2-3 complete threads!

Do you know if the wolf uses BSP thread?

As you say Im not going to fit an oiler. Ive heard unless its near the tool most oil wont get there and as you said you need different hoses.

Where is the best stuff to get hoses and regulators and the likes? Machine mart doesnt seem to have a massive choice and seem expensive unless Im not looking at the right things

I've got bits from Toolbox.co.UK (still waiting for my order 6 days later however) and also off Amazon. Hoses I did get at MM, and bought uni fittings at Screwfix of all places.
